Grout/Mazéas : Black Bivouac #9

The screening will be followed by a conversation between Sylvain Grout (artiste), Yann Mazéas (artiste) and Arnaud Deshayes (cinéaste).

FRIDAY OCTOBER 20, 5 - 7 PM

As part of Paris Internationale and Centre National des Arts Plastiques (CNAP) exhibition program entitled MAINTENANT! (NOW!), discover artists duo Grout/Mazéas project « Black Bivouac #9 » on view at the Silencio des Près, 22 rue Guillaume Apollinaire.

This project has benefited CNAP’s support in 2022. Since the late 1990s, Grout/Mazéas have co-signed a series of works and exhibitions in which what’s fake and what’s real rub shoulders, test each other and collide.
Black Bivouac #9, from the series of short films of the same name, depicts the making of smuggled whisky. In the fumes of a still, like the Bouvard and Pécuchet of contemporary art, the two artists have taken on the role of nocturnal distillers, to the sound of a laborious and ethereal banjo. The gestures are slow and sometimes clumsy, a series of almost didactic sequences that could feature in an experimental tutorial.
