The oxidized steel pieces in the Halt the Cyclone series display a collection of base materials such as plant fiber and iron oxide color pigment. The works resemble satellites, spacecrafts, outdoor shelving, or agricultural and industrial machines, and are reminiscent of Constructivist works. Halt the Cyclone refers to ill-fated attempts to escape the turbulence of the world, control matter, and halt the forces of time and entropy. Further, it signals a temporary inertness, operating as independent modules for the display of arrested structures. In a state of suspension and quietude, these compositions momentarily achieve ataraxia, a freedom from agitation. The pieces were part of the Disturbances and Multiplicities exhibition, which sought to explore the roles that noise, turbulence, and the spontaneous assembly of the multitude play in our social, ecological, and formal systems.
