The emblematic Daily Dérives, a programme of conversations led by leading figures from the art world, will again welcome this year’s visitors who are eager for expert guidance and the sharp eye of the invited professionals. Each « dérive » remains true to the Situationist meaning of the term, to wander and be drawn “by the attractions of the terrain” (Guy Debord). These unique moments warmly invite visitors to discover the exhibition through the eyes of an expert in a more intimate setting, thus giving rise to invaluable insights and affirming each person in their relationship to contemporary art.
Suzanne Syz is a Geneva-based designer and art collector known for her imaginative approach to contemporary jewelry. After living in New York in the 1980s, where she became close to artists such as Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Julian Schnabel, she returned to Switzerland and founded her eponymous jewelry house. Her creations, blending humor, color, and exquisite craftsmanship, redefined high jewelry with a playful, artistic spirit. A passionate collector, she has supported contemporary art for decades through the Syz Collection and numerous collaborations with artists and designers.
FR. Suzanne Syz est une créatrice et collectionneuse d’art basée à Genève, connue pour son approche imaginative de la joaillerie contemporaine. Après avoir vécu à New York dans les années 1980, où elle s’est liée d’amitié avec des artistes tels qu’Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat et Julian Schnabel, elle est revenue en Suisse et a fondé sa maison de joaillerie éponyme. Ses créations, alliant humour, couleurs et savoir-faire artisanal raffiné, ont redéfini la haute joaillerie avec un esprit ludique et artistique. Collectionneuse passionnée, elle soutient l’art contemporain depuis des décennies à travers la Collection Syz et de nombreuses collaborations avec des artistes et des designers.
Nicolas Trembley is an art critic, exhibition curator, and contemporary art advisor who shares his time between Paris and Geneva. He is currently artistic director of the Syz collection. He has organised numerous exhibitions on the connections between contemporary art and craft, notably the touring exhibition « Sgrafo vs. Fat Lava. Ceramics and Porcelains made in West Germany 1960–1980 » (2011), and several exhibitions between 2013 and 2022 exploring the Japanese Mingei folk craft movement, notably « Mingei: Are You Here? » at Pace Gallery, London and New York, in 2014. He recently organised CRAFT» at Galerie Francesca Pia, Zurich, in 2023, and « Les céramiques» de Wifredo Lam at the Musée Guimet, Paris, in 2022–23. He recently curated « Drawings for Tokyo» at Shibunkaku, Tokyo, bringing together artist Wade Guyton and potter Rosanjin.
His new book « Craft », published by After 8 Books, Paris, and designed by Norm, Zurich, will be released in November 2025.
FR. Nicolas Trembley est critique d’art, commissaire d’exposition et conseiller en art contemporain. Il partage son temps entre Paris et Genève. Il est actuellement directeur artistique de la collection Syz. Il a organisé de nombreuses expositions sur les liens entre l’art contemporain et l’artisanat, notamment l’exposition itinérante « Sgrafo vs. Fat Lava. Céramiques et porcelaines fabriquées en Allemagne de l’Ouest entre 1960 et 1980 » (2011), et plusieurs expositions entre 2013 et 2022 explorant le mouvement artisanal populaire japonais Mingei, notamment « Mingei : Are You Here ? » à la Pace Gallery, à Londres et à New York, en 2014. Il a récemment organisé CRAFT » à la Galerie Francesca Pia, Zurich, en 2023, et « Les céramiques » de Wifredo Lam au Musée Guimet, Paris, en 2022-23.
