Baptiste Pinteaux talks about PaJaMa with Alice Dusapin

LET’S TALK ABOUT SOMEONE ELSE
Baptiste Pinteaux on PaJaMa

Organised by Fondation Pernod Ricard
Curated by Alice Dusapin

Having previously spoken with curators, publishers and researchers about the independent structures and spaces they have organically founded and run, this year’s cycle shifts the focus onto the artists who put us to work. Four guests, four strong affinities with an artist’s practice, and four objects of desire, research and transmission. Whether they have collaborated with an artist or looked to extend their lineage, whether they have reactivated a work or rediscovered a forgotten career, each guest will talk about someone else. Their subjects are anything but random: after all, choosing who to research, taking up a body of work, unearthing an archive or passing on an oeuvre is also a way of telling one’s own story. Behind these gestures, what is really at stake is the love we cultivate for other people’s work, and the way in which it feeds into our own practices.

To inaugurate this new series of talks, I’ll be in conversation with publisher and curator Baptiste Pinteaux. He will present and discuss his research into the photographic work of PaJaMa, a trio of American painters comprising Paul Cadmus (1904–1999), Jared French (1905–1988), and Margaret Hoening French (1906–1998). We’ll talk about romance, lineage, and learning not to work alone.
