For her exhibition “Continent” at Kunsthaus Bregenz in March of 2022, Budor cast three sections of a tunnel surrounding the Austrian museum’s underground foundations. Technically termed diaphragm tunnel, the subterranean construction serves to prevent the collapse of adjacent buildings and expel the water seepage from the alluvial soil on which the museum is built. Its outer wall was cast with preservation latex, stripping them of any material remnants. This negative cast now spans the exteriors of Kollektorgang, which have been re-installed in GAMeC’s Spazio Zero, to create interlocking channels. Floor paint has been extended in transparency onto the walls to the height of the sculptures, sinking the room into the ground.
To vertically reconstitute the wall-like forms, Budor manufactured papercrete from shredded paperwork discarded by the surrounding businesses. Inside of the room, they appear as neutral gray walls; up close, they disclose a muffled murmur of internal circulations, legal agreements, and private correspondence, to pose a question of what must be expelled for neutrality to be maintained
