MISAKO & ROSEN will be making a solo presentation with Miki Mochizuka. Mochizuka was born (1974) and presently lives and works in Shizuoka, Japan. His recent solo exhibitions include MISAKO & ROSEN, Skew (2023) Shane Campbell Gallery, Coexistence, Chicago (2016), and The Vangi Sculpture Garden Museum, Sun Day, Shizuoka
(2012-13). In 2014, Mochizuka participated in the contemporary Japanese painting survey exhibition, The way of painting, at the Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery.

Miki Mochizuka’s paintings are formed from ambiguous memories and abstract mental afterimages. These initial elements are transformed by the artist in an act in which essence is skewed in favor of fact. In the Paris paintings, Mochizukai continues his recent experiments with a rich, deep black ground and mark making of oversaturated coloration and blurred brushstroke. Much like a cloud transforming or the unfolding of a Japanese fable, the paintings may serve to prompt a shifting sense of perception.
