Sophie Kovel

Sophie Kovel examines the social, economic, aesthetic, and ideological operations of ethnonationalism. For Paris Internationale, Kovel presents new work that addresses the politics of public disclosure, civic and political whistleblowing, and the financialization of the U.S. Supreme Court.

In 2017, Reality Winner worked for Pluribus International Corporation as an intelligence specialist, and was arrested after leaking a intelligence report to the Intercept about interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election. United States of America v. Reality Leigh Winner stages the Xerox multifunction copier used to print the classified National Security Agency documents.

In 2021, the Chicago-based businessman and political megadonor, Barre Seid, gifted the entirety of his company’s shares—worth 1.6 billion dollars—to Leonard Leo’s Marble Freedom Trust, the largest private donation to a political nonprofit in U.S. history. As co-chair of the Federalist Society, Leo funded five of the six current conservative justices assisting an overhaul of the Supreme Court, and was a leading advocate to end federal abortion rights and gender-affirming care, among other constitutional protections. As pictured in Camp Topridge, Upper St. Regis Lake, Keese Mill, New York, the trust was conceived at Camp Topridge.
