Gian Marco Casini / Laveronica Arte Contemporanea

Gian Marco Casini (Livorno) and Laveronica (Modica) galleries present a joint solo presentation dedicated to Renato Spagnoli (1928–2019), a key yet still under-recognised figure within Italian post-war research at the intersection of painting, writing, optical experimentation and installation. The project stems from a recent co-representation and from a shared process of research, archival work and critical reassessment, aimed at repositioning Spagnoli’s practice within an international context.
From the early 1960s onwards, Spagnoli identified the letter “A” as a minimal unit of communication, progressively transforming it into sign, structure, rhythm and spatial device. The proposed selection spans from 1961 to 1983 and moves across different media and scales: early painterly works on paper mounted on canvas, transparent and methacrylate pieces, works employing industrial materials, and an environmental installation that activates the corner of the booth as a perceptual and experiential space rather than a purely display-driven one. Together, these works trace the coherence of a practice that anticipates questions of modularity, seriality and the relationship between
language and space.
The booth is conceived as a micro-architecture, where walls operate as surfaces for reading and the display itself becomes a critical tool. Within the Milan context—coinciding with Art Week and the opening days of Salone del Mobile—Spagnoli’s work emerges as deeply attuned to the languages of design, graphics and architecture, engaging a cross-disciplinary audience.
The shared booth reflects a curatorial and methodological approach grounded in collaboration between the two galleries, and in a long-term commitment to the re-evaluation of a historical artist through exhibitions, publications and a documentary currently in production.

In 2017 Gian Marco Casini decided to set up his gallery in Livorno focusing his exhibition program on the peculiar topics of the city’s history. Citizenship, Architecture, Press Freedom, Anarchism, Linguistics are some of the recurring words in its agenda.

Laveronica was founded in 2007 in Modica, Sicily, by Corrado Gugliotta. From its inception, the gallery has worked with artists who investigate the human condition, whether in its public and political dimensions, or with reflections of a more intimate nature, related to the private sphere.
