Gaga

Gaga was conceived as an extension of the late production office Perros Negros.
The gallery’s Interest is that of representing both local and international artists
from different generations and presenting their work in Mexico.
We operate in close relationship with our artists whom,
concurrently, develop works in diverse fields, collectives, brands and galleries.
Gaga aims to establish an open and mutating structure that incorporates its free
experimentation possibilities with a serious commitment to its artists. After seventeen years of the gallery’s foundation and with the gallery’s expansion
with a second location in Los Angeles, we are eager to revise our own history and
continue supporting the evolution of our represented artists.

For Paris Internationale 2024, Gaga presents a series of works by Josef Strau and ASMA.

Josef Strau (Vienna, b. 1957) has found himself influenced by Mexican tin folk art and inspired by Byzantine icon paintings and stained-glass art. Tin, jewelry, text, and iron fences have been persistent in the work of Strau, who identified with the Conceptual art scene that emerged from Cologne in the 1990s. For PI, we present a selection of works ranging from seraphim angels and stones and gems to lamps and fences laying on text posters resting on the floor.

The artist duo ASMA (Hanya Beliá, Cancún, b. 1994 and Matias Armendaris, Quito, b. 1990) presents a range works that inquire into painting, craftsmanship and functionality. Popular culture and science fiction reveal themselves in surrealistic creations with symbolic connections not necessarily defined. Materiality is very important in their sculptural process where you can find beauty and delicacy within its dreadful and fantastic nature.
