For the 10th edition of Paris Internationale, Stereo presents a duo booth featuring
works by Piotr Bury Łakomy and Barbara Wesołowska.
Piotr Bury Łakomy (b. 1983, lives and works in Poznań) is presenting a series of small
format works on cotton and silk titled Shapeless Body House (2023). Blurred shapes enclosed in a format borrowed from Le Corbusier’s Modulor, situated between the body and the house follow the stitching of delicate fabric or bypass them, building new “rooms”. Surfaces vibrate and shimmer. The reflected shape of cells can bring to mind the cells and tissue of human skin or the organic texture of animal nests and habitats.
Barbara Wesołowska (b. 1984, lives and works in London) uses means of abstract
painting, yet, through the intuitive application of paint and its layers, the artist draws the viewer into a psychologically intense narrative. Her paintings are not knowingly constructed, but improvised, gleaned from memory or oblivion, and constitute a record of the process of searching for the final image. This image always contains a human face on the verge of visibility, emerging from the abstracted mist. The presentation includes two recent paintings by the artist, titled Facing in and Leftovers (both 2024).
