General Expenses

Founded in Mexico City in 2022, General Expenses is an art gallery committed to the practice and dialogue among artists, collectives, and cultural institutions.

We seek to promote and grow multidisciplinary practices linked –directly or indirectly– with Mexico, as well as with current global and local issues. Our program is conceived to encompass a wide-range of exhibition making.

General Expenses is pleased to present ‘Accounting Repetition’, a three person booth that includes the work of Angela Leyva, Ellen Hanson, and Marek Wolfryd.

‘Accounting Repetition’ brings together three practices that investigate what it costs to make and circulate images today — materially, economically and culturally. Marek Wolfryd stages appropriation and process; Ángela Leyva tests the boundaries between algorithm, portraits and painter; Ellen Hanson composes the social narratives that images perform regarding the history of fabrics in women clothings. Together, these works ask: “Who pays the price of authorship, what distortions lie within and what is left after reproduction?”
