Goswell Road

Goswell Road is a non-profit art space set up by Coralie Ruiz and Anthony Stephinson. Since 2016, they have invited artists from the fringes. They have shaped a unique and committed curatorial approach in dialogue with the art scene in France, Paris, and beyond. The role of the programme is to reveal artists whose practice is under-represented and to inscribe it in the sphere of the contemporary art world, and, more broadly, institutional culture.

“Biographies won’t matter when waves are washing over our cities. Answering personal questions encourages people to think that the game can continue. The game is ending, nearly all of us have lost, and even for the few who won, it’s a Pyrrhic victory, a first-class cabin on a sinking ship. It’s long past time to start telling people the truth. In the near future, it will not matter where you came from or how popular you were. What will matter is how well you can cooperate with others because survival will require cooperation on a scale that’s currently inconceivable. The only story that matters now is the story of how we finally stopped burning fossil carbon and became a more enlightened species.”

Chris Korda, 2021, in response to Quentin Grosset. The interview was published in its entirety in Trax Magazine issue no. 233, December 2021

“Well, I think we’re overdue for a rebellion, given everything we’ve been through collectively and individually… We’re either complicit or we come out of this situation more defiant.”

“To understand Zoe Dewitt’s visual universe, we must first go back to her sound experiments with her projects Korpses Katatonik and Zero Kama. Born Michael Sperlhofer, Zoe Dewitt was a key figure in the international development of industrial music from her native Austria in the early 1980s.”

“There is a connection, as I always considered myself a tantric and a shaman, and in both the tantric and the shaman traditions, transgender practices play a certain role. It was thought in many cultures that only females can be shamans, so male practitioners had to adopt a female identity by cross-dressing, etc. Also, in tantrism, the “reversal of senses” plays an important role – you do exactly the reverse of what is socially accepted, a spiritual practice that aims at the overcoming of life’s duality by assimilating its negative and neglected aspects. That’s exactly what I also did with Zero Kama.”
