KIKI FURLAN

GIANNI MANHATTAN is excited to present a solo presentation by Austrian artist Kiki Furlan (born 2001, lives and works in Vienna) at Paris Internationale 2025.

Working in pairs, each piece consists of two seemingly identical doormats placed side by side. Only upon closer inspection does it become apparent that the images have been subtly altered by Furlan: a plant pot appears, the dishes in the sink have vanished. The doubled image expands upon the original.

Using her signature felting technique, Furlan manipulates the printed scenes by erasing and reconstructing elements, creating an analogue echo of Photoshop’s editing tools. Gestures of both, construction and dissolution emerge. A space where memory and material leak into one another.

These gestures recall Susan Sontag’s reflections on photography as mediation, memory, evidence and how images shift in meaning across contexts. Furlan’s work points to the photograph as something that both records and erases, a frozen moment that invites comparison and quietly alters what we understand as real or present.
