In 2021, the Chicago-based businessman and political megadonor, Barre Seid, gifted the entirety of his company’s shares—worth 1.6 billion dollars—to Leonard Leo’s Marble Freedom Trust, the largest private donation to a political nonprofit in U.S. history. As co-chair of the Federalist Society, Leo funded five of the six current conservative justices assisting an overhaul of the Supreme Court, and was a leading advocate to end federal abortion rights and gender-affirming care, among other constitutional protections.
