COOPER COLE presents Temple of Friendship, a two-person exhibition by G.B. Jones and Paul P. at Paris Internationale 2026. Renowned for reworking queer historical imagery, both artists have shaped distinct legacies. Since the 1980s, Jones has been a central figure in Queercore, contributing to film, publishing, and punk, while Paul P., emerging in the early 2000s, reframes pre-AIDS gay erotica through the lens of classical art history.
For over two decades, they have collaborated on cut-and-paste collages drawn from a shared image archive. Merging their approaches, these works explore queer lineage, coded language, and political histories, foregrounding ungovernable sexualities and collective expression. Installed against a black wall, the presentation evokes the atmosphere of queer nightlife and its spaces of visibility and concealment.
The exhibition also includes Jones’ Tom Girls drawings (late 1980s–90s), which subvert Tom of Finland’s hyper-masculine figures by replacing them with assertive, leather-clad dykes, reclaiming representation through a feminist lens. Complementing these are Paul P.’s early coloured pencil drawings, which reinterpret found erotic imagery through 19th-century aesthetics, using recurring motifs that signal beauty, loss, and the rupture of the AIDS crisis.
Temple of Friendship reflects their enduring collaboration and shared role in shaping contemporary queer visual culture.
