Gian Marco Casini opened the gallery in 2017 in Livorno, a city whose history shapes its approach to art and curating. Founded in the 16th century on the principle of coexistence between peoples and creeds, Livorno guaranteed minorities the freedom to live, practice their faith and trade. Jewish, Greek, Muslim, Armenian and Dutch settlers moved to the city, designed for them by the Medici family. In line with Livorno’s genius loci, the gallery explores themes rooted in its history, including citizenship, architecture, freedom of the press, anarchism and linguistics.
