Kendall Koppe

Throughout the gallery’s history, it has been invested in the under-represented voices within contemporary art practice, particularly that of queer and female artists. Historically, these voices have been consistently overshadowed and creating a space where artists can relate narratives of personal experience to significant social issues, art history and popular culture along with representing Scotland’s contribution to the visual arts has been the gallery’s driving objective. The gallery has returned to its original moniker of Kendall Koppe established in 2011 and re-established its yearly residency, in which an emerging artist is invited to utilise the gallery’s exhibition space to create a new body of work while supported by the gallery and its engaged community. In addition to its annual programme the gallery commissions four to six pieces of writing a year, with a focus on writers from marginalised perspectives.

LAURA ALDRIDGE — LEANNE ROSS

Laura Aldridge (b. 1978) lives and works in Glasgow. She will present new works at Jupiter Artland, Edinburgh in 2023. Leanne Ross (b.1984) lives and works in Midlothian. Ross works on a project called KMAdot.com (Kiss my Art) - KMAdot.com are fourteen artists who produce artwork inspired by their interests and personalities. Her ‘Shout Out’ poster paintings are snippets of conversations in the studio and quotidian life. Ross‘s words are matched with colours which she meticulously journals throughout the year. Although Ross’s use of language is personal to her experience, her words resonate loudly with all who encounter them. Simultaneously poetic and brutal her compositions and prose echo techniques seen within concrete poetry. She has recently exhibited as part of The Outside is Inside Everything We Make, Kendall Koppe, Glasgow (2021) and her work is held in The British Government Art Collection.
